Travel Information

			BANGKOK "THE CITY OF ANGLES" Bangkok, Thailand's riverside capital, is one of the most exotic cities in the Orient. It is known to the Thais as "Krungthep" (which means The City of Angles) and was established in 1782 by King Rama 1. Today, it has developed into a great metropolis with a population of over 8 million people. Bangkok's Strategic location makes it one of the world's major crossroads and the most important air transportation hub in Southeast Asia. Bangkok is also a city steeped in history, culture and religion, and so offers a host of memorable sights around the city and a good introduction to Thailand.
	ORDINARY CITY BUSES There are both air-conditioned and non-air -conditioned. The fare ranges from 6 to 20 baht depending on the distance for air-conditioned buses, and 3.50 baht for non-air-conditioned. Avoid them during rush hours, when they can be very crowed and uncomfortable.
	SAMLORS Three-wheeled motor scooters, known as "TUK TUK" to Thais. They're a little cheaper than ordinary taxis and are suitable for short trips only. A little bargaining is normally expected before a final price is agreed.		TAXIS Most taxis in Bangkok are metred and can be recognized by their Meter Taxi rooftop sign. Fares start at 35 baht and rise in increments according to time and distance.
