MAE HONGSON : LAND OF THE THREE SEASONS MIST

Another wonderful side trip side form Chiang Mai is to travel northwest to the sleepy little town of Mae Hongson, hidden deep in a valley ringed by majestic mountain-ranges and befitting of a Shangrila Within the town are some Burmese-style temples disingished by their tottering multi-tiered roofs, while the surrounding countryside offers some breathtaking views. Other attractions include Karen hilltribe villages (long-neck women) and a mysterious cave dating back to prehistoric times.

HOW TO GET THERE

There are dally flights form Bangkok to Mae Hongson via Chiang Mai by Thai Airways. If time permits, it is worth making the circuitous 360-kilometeer journey by road which winds spectacularly throungh some of the north's finest hill country.
