SAMUI : THE COCONUT ISLAND

Koh Samui, a coconut palm covered island in the Gulf of Siam off Surat Thani Coast, was discovered in the seventies by young travelers seeking the "ideal tropical Nirvana", away from modern amenities and conveniences. Word of the island quickly spread, extolling its unspoiled natural beauty.

HOW TO GET THERE

By plane, express trian, or deluxe air-conditioned coach to Surat Thani, then continue to Samui Island by ferry (1.5 hour from Khanom, 50 kms. south of Surat Thani) Departures fromthe mainland are at 08:30 hrs. & 15:00 hrs. from Samui island at 09:30 hrs. & 12:00 hrs.

Today, Koh Samui, still unspoiled, beautiful and somewhat isolated is visited by vacationers of all ages and income groups. It is firmly established on the international tourism map, and unlike twenty years ago, can be reached conveniently by air, rail, road and boat. A wide selection of accommodation is available from very basic grass-roofed huts (a relic of the hippie era) to the most modern international class hotels.

Koh Samui Airport, which was opened in 1990, is owned by Bangkok Airways, the only airline that files into Samui. The filght between Bangkok is approximately one hour and ten minutes.
